Our children’s eye care team

Posted on 27th September 2021

For anyone new to the practice, we thought it would be helpful for us to introduce our optometry team – eight optometrists all with different areas of expertise but all sharing a passion for children’s eye care.

Ian is dad of three children who are currently in nursery and primary school. He is able to combine his professional expertise, with his relaxed nature, to ensure children are at ease during their appointments. He has a wealth of expertise in all areas of children’s vision, with a particular interest in bringing new innovative and effective treatments to the practice.

Gillian is our myopia management pioneer. She set up the clinic over six years ago, one of the first to offer it in Scotland, and since was the first to offer the MiSight lenses and now the MiYOSMART glasses lenses. She is a real trendsetter!

Claire is incredibly experienced in children’s contact lenses, in particular overnight lenses. She absolutely loves finding solutions for children who think that contact lenses aren’t for them.

Alexandra spends some of her week at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in the paediatric service. She also screens paediatric patients for uveitis, a form of eye inflammation associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. At the practice, she uses this experience to ensure children are in the safest hands.

Heather’s specialism lies with tiny little ones, through her work with the Lothian Hospital Eye Service, Heather fits a wide range of complex medical lenses for hospital patients, including newborn babies, and other children who have unique medical requirements.

Rebecca has seen it all and holds so many qualifications, it’s hard to fit all the letters in. Like Gillian, she holds a masters in Primary Care Ophthalmology, which relates to what optometrists can do in the community to manage eye disease and conditions that have traditionally been managed in eye hospitals. She shares her colleagues’ passion for contact lenses and finding solutions for children whatever their eye condition.

Emma is our behavioural optometrist and vision therapy guru. Her appointments are definitely the most fun, with all her gadgets and gizmos. She has changed the lives of so many who, without her, would never have known there was a way to improve the messages the brain receives from the eyes.

Cirta is an optometrist with a special interest in visual impairment. She divides her time between Cameron Optometry and her work at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion where she works in both the paediatric clinic and the low vision clinic.

If you would like to book an appointment, you can call us on 0131 225 2235.
